I do lots of thinking when I’m driving, I solve so many problems. It is obvious that the photography business is much different than it used to be. Is there business to be had in our profession? YES there is!!!! However, I have noticed that even in tv shows that they do not hire a pro photographer like they used too. So, people, the general public do not hire photographers like they used to too. But if we are great at what we do, we can find business. I just did it, while I was at the SYNC convention. Getting business is now more of a creative process. You have to THINK of ways of finding business, being aggressive, and using the skills that we have. We have to be very creative at what we have the ability to do. Think along the lines of how can I hustle up work. Doing whatever it takes to get and find that work.

This short video was done 3 years ago as a personal project. My goal was to make a movie everyday for 1 year. It ended up be ing 2 years. The point of this video was to encourage everyone to take a day off.

Take a Day Off. That could be you do a little golf trip. Enjoy this little fly over a golf course as you ponder what you can do. Put it on your calendar if necessary. Take a break, enjoy some play, if necessary, put it on your calendar and schedule it.

Do you send off Thank you Notes? Sometimes it is the SIMPLEST things that define good business, bad business, and GREAT BUSINESS. In the course of your lifetime, I’m sure that you personally have received several nice thank you notes in the mail from a friend or family member, or a business.

HOW DID THAT MAKE YOU FEEL? Not doubt you are like me in that it made you feel super special. You may have even kept that note and filed it away with important papers. That is just how special these Thank You Notes were to you.

Now, Imagine you do that kind of customer service with your customers? What If you started sending out nice hand written “Thank You Notes”? What do  you think the results of that would be?

Bad business people do not worry about that kind of thing. Good Business People will do it from time to time. But GREAT Business people do it all the time. Imagine how that would celebrate you from your competition!!!!

NOW, when I say thank you notes, I’m not talking about something you email to a client, or something that you text out to them. I’m talking about a nice card, with a cool photo on it, and then a hand written message. A personal message that tells them how you feel about them and the business they gave you.

In the future, starting to day, if you were to do that with every client, you would be a GREAT Business person! So consider this from now on if you are interested in making a difference in your business.

Catchup Day sometimes needs to be scheduled. You literally have to get up at DARK :30 in the morning and then just catch up! Get it all done and then you will have happy customers!

Do not wait to the last minute to do your retouching. Do not put it off. Schedule your retouching. If you have a 2 hour shoot, then put 2 hours on the books to do your retouching. Do not put it off or it will pile up on you and your customers will not be happy with you!

Yes it can happen!! Mac’s can get Adware. People used to say you cannot get adware…but you can!!!! This problem showed up mostly when I was using Photoshop “Healing Brush”. It was taking me hours and hours to finish retouching. If you know me at all, you know how crazy this makes me! So I started checking and checking to find out what had happened? I blew out all the dust on my computer, I pulled out all the hard drives, etc. Finally, I came across the solution after hours and hours of searching!

So, check out your Mac and see if you have some adware. The company I found that solved my problem was Malwarebytes. They identified over a dozen types of adware that were infecting my computer. So do your self a favor and check out Malwarebytes and see if you have any problems. Malwarebytes is FREE, however, if you want it to check your system all the time you can pay for it. I love Malwarebytes!!!

I have been photographing weddings for almost 40 years. I have seen so many strange things and it is very, very rare that I am surprised at something new. But the wedding I just did had 2 separate photographers hired to cover the event. I had no idea, I was not informed, I show up and beside me, there is this other person. We ask each other what are you doing here??? The answer is, the Bride has literally hired 2 photographers. She did not tell either of us that she had done that, and we were left to just sort it out on the fly.
